One time, at band camp... No wait, actually, one night, at -=Clockwork=- I was talking with Alex about how the club should host an all Morrissey/The Smiths night of music, and to show our appreciation, everyone in attendance could use a Morrisey alt, since I had recently discovered that last name is now available in SL - w00t!
Last night, that discussion came up again, but this time it was overheard and moments later, a Ruth'd out newbie by the name of Myg Morrisey lands in the middle of the club. Let me tell you, that caused a ripple effect like no other!

As more and More Morriseys started to appear, it quickly became obvious we were needing to bust out of the club and explore this brave new world in which we had landed.
Okay, so mostly it was because the womens wanted to go shopping.
That was very interesting to me - suddenly, just by having a fresh new alt, the girls were instantly addicted to gathering as many freebies as possible. It was sort of like a timed scavenger hunt or something. They wanted new hair, new clothes, new skin, you name it. And the unspoken rule of thumb was pretty much wherever one new Morrisey goes, we all go. Flash Mob style!
And that's what we did - teleport around to various locations en masse and hunt for the freebies, gathering new Morrisey converts along the way. I think my friends list has like at least 12 Morrisey alts listed now. It could always use more.
I think Voice worked very well for this spontaneous event - which was made quite noticeable whenever we landed somewhere with no Voice - we started to spread out, lose communication, everything started getting hectic. But with Voice enabled, we were doing far more typing that talking, and Voice was mostly used for the laugh track, but should we need to make decisions or coordinate movement, Voice was the way to go.
Besides, hitting someone with 10 friend requests all at once would not be as much of a surprise if we had to type out the countdown, right? ;-)
I enjoyed the Flash Mob mentality, surprisingly enough. Everyone acting as one hive, for the most part. Someone started a Group so we could remain cohesive and have cool titles. Someone picked up a pair of freebie red boots and of course, we all started wearing them. It was just one of those moments where, because you are in a virtual world and with a group, you can act as silly as you want with far less embarrassment than, say, I deal with in RL every day, heh. There were tons of freakin' hilarious moments, but sadly, even with chat history (See My SLife with the Thrill Kill Morrisey Cult), it was pretty much one of those things where you needed to be there to fully appreciate the situation. I will say that this morning, my stomach still hurts from laughing so much last night. I think I share in this sentiment, from the looks of the article "We are the pretty, petty thieves, and you're standing on our street." See what I mean?
Thanks to everyone who participated!! Next time, I bet we can easily double the number of Morriseys. ;-)
PS - I love The Smiths. Do you love The Smiths? I do.

I LOVE THE SMITHS, TOO!
I woke up laughing as well and began obsessively sorting and updating my Smiths/Morrissey collection... uh oh.
Moz loves Morriseys.
Frankly Mr. Paine, I am Moz. Don't you remember? I'm also short. At least I love The Smiths.
I kept giggling all day today thinking about it and wanted to yell at customers "f00k..I love the friggin smiths"..umm but then I didn't
I think I'm starting to like the Gillian with a "J" a bit too much! (Hey, she has great taste in music!)
I think I like JellyBean in any alt!
HawksRocks the Moz! You looked way too comfortable as a Morrisey, dude - gotta love that!
Alex, I think your blog post alone shows that no one is more deserving of the Morrisey alt than you, my friend. More Morrissey, please!
Garrett! So close! You have the right attitude, you were just missing Voice and a Morrisey alt!! You will be assimilated.
"Shyness is nice, but shyness can stop you, from doing all the things in life you'd like to..." So glad you found your Voice in the world, Elusyve - - and Moz was surely smiling down on you last night - you might have to bring Suedehead out more often. ;-)
a Morrisey flash mob. LMAO. Only in Second Life.
*drooling over the Smiths*
Make it easy on your girlfriends and have them join Hey Girlfriend in world. Gents are allowed, but they better be pretty girl-friendly.
As for the hunts - we got the 411 on the LMs for those. And no, it doesn't take one bit of fun out of it! :P
*sluuurrrpppp*
You know where to find those tunes too.
