Wrath Paine in: Diving Board Testing Day

After reading Dinee's awesome recap of her adventures testing DesertWolf's new diving board, you just knew that I would have to get in on that action.

And as usual, with any scientific testing to be done, hilarity ensued. Especially considering the moment right after we lost Silkyn out of eyesight, we inadvertently launched my friendly and barely English speaking neighbour clear into the next sim...

I apologize if this sucks, but it's my firstest ever video blog...

Holy cow, just how much definition do you need to upload videos to YouTube if they are going to compress it that much and make it look all distorted?? Argh. That bites. Oh well, hopefully my next attempt won't make your eyes feel so blurry, hehe.

your first video blog? i'm not so sure about that, paine. i've seen your handiwork elsewhere, i'm sure of it.

would you like to do a post for dumbbells like yrs truly here on how one gets started making one of these? because, gosh, i'd link the hell out of a post like that and i'm sure many others would too!

Well, I hardly know enough about it to do a blog post, especially anything resembling a tutorial. But I can tell you the simple steps I took for this one. (Probably not Mac friendly instructions, either, sorry)

1. Press ctrl+alt+1 I don't know how to find that in the drop down menu options, but it hides everything on screen, which you will want for a clean video.

2. Press ctrl+shift+a That can be found under File -> Start/Stop Movie to Disk. That controls when you start filming.

3. If you have the hard drive space, you will want to save it as Full Frames (Uncompressed) video and select where to save it (as an .avi file) on your computer.

4. Press ctrl+shift+a again to stop filming. I find it works best to film short increments of video for my computer, otherwise lag and stuff makes it all jerky.

5. Then I took the multiple video clips, dropped them into Windows Movie Maker which came with Windows XP Pro, and dropped a music file into it and saved it.

I think most people who actually do cool videos use Fraps so I probably should check on that sometime.

You know, I think JellyBbean Madison of Mean Girls fame might be at the next blogger meetup, and she does killer short videos, so I plan on picking her brain lots if I have the chance. ;-)

Looks good to me for your first, or second, machinima.

The Caledonians/Steampunks are the real experts at this. They create massive scenes involving airships in formation and battle scenes. I'm hoping a few will be attending the next meeting. I think Oolon Sputnik is their chief director and machinimatographer. He's a busy Time Lord, but maybe I can get him to drop in with his Tardis for the next blogger meetup.

i just thought about something, what do you think would happen if we dropped the gravity ball on the diving board? that would be one hell of a ride hehe

Whoa, Tiana!! I think you just might be onto something there!! We were always looking for the best bounce possible - that makes perfect sense! Requires immediate testing! ;-)

Thats great Wrath! I wondered what you were going to do with all those clips of the failed attempts.
btw.. heard from your neighbor yet? or is she still orbiting the planet somewhere?

Hey, Dinee! Yes, I did hear from dear ol' Best - she arrived safely at her nearby shop.

Finally.

She sends her LOL's to each of you. ;-)
