Wrath vs. Vint :: Not-a-meme #13

So, Miss Vint Falken has posted a highly popular topic on her blog recently (Not-a-meme #13: Secrets and Confessions) which is just too tempting to pass by.

I will compare my answers to her answers to the questions which she poses. That should provide a good newbie vs. experienced resident revelation, as well as the male vs. female differences, perhaps. In this post, I will be playing the role of a newbie male resident in SL, and Vint can be the cool, experienced, female resident. Remember, this isn't a contest, there are no winners and Vint's blog will always be superior to mine. But don't let that bias your reading enjoyment. *g*

Now, first just let me preface this in that I will say that two topics seemly highly charged and easy to get out of hand, much like a game of drunken truth or dare, but from reading Vint's own responses, I seriously had to take a moment to wonder if this wasn't some sort of April's Fools Joke intended to get others to open up and reveal their possibly embarrassing circumstances, all the while she suffers nothing of the sort? hehe

For example, the first part of the post asks readers to post a secret about your Second Life. Something you've kept hidden from the rest of us until now. She suggests meta-sins, or betrayals, alts, or just being a mean meta-person.

What does she offer from her own personal Second Life in response? Uh, only that she takes notes about people she meets. What the ??!

Does anything involving one's profile somehow suggest a meta-sin? Betrayal? Being a mean meta-person? NO! Heck, even Torley Linden suggests keeping notes on people you meet in his tutorial video for profiles and he's one of the nicest people I've never met! Even as the newbie that I am, I keep notes on people, and have even suggested to my friends they do the same about me - and when most people find out you saved notes from a conversation they are impressed that you actually cared enough to listen and remember stuff about them that they end up agreeing it's a great idea! So, sorry, Vint, I think we need much better SL dirt than that from you, and come on, I think we know you have it in you, hehe. ;-)

As for my dirt? I started this blog to reveal every single step a newbie male might take in SL. There aren't any secrets! If I had something worth keeping secret, don't you think I'd immediately post it here so that I'd have something even remotely interesting for people to read?? Besides, aren't guys known for their infamous locker-room details about last night's conquests? You don't think I want to be cool like that? hehe Okay, I don't, but I promised myself if anything news-worthy happens, I will share it here first.

Oh, and no stories of me being a mean meta-person or examples of betrayal - that involves drama which I am not all that into. No alt for me, as so far I have found a happy balance splitting the personality of my one avatar into two different characters.

There have been no torrid one night stands: no sex involving myself, or me and somebody else, or me and several other persons, or even animals. Although, I did see boobs once. Okay, maybe twice or more. So have you.

Okay, sure, I can hear what you are all thinking anyway, so fine - I'm BORING, get over it!

The second part of Vint's excellent post is asking readers to reveal a glimpse of their real lives. And if I read correctly, the two revelations Vint offers here are an obscured RL photo of herself and that she is skinny.

Okay, well, my RL photo is on my profile, and while it does have Photoshop® affects added to it, it would still be more clear to recognize me in RL than Vint's photo from a distance with her face blocked from view. ;-) Although, you know, off-topic, I've been thinking of removing my profile picture. I added it because I had seen others who had theirs on the profile and found that I liked looking at that section of people's profiles and being able to see a picture there. But at the same time, does it take away too much from the SL experience?? If so, I definitely don't want that.

Anyway, if you want a glimpse of who the RL me is, then just IM me in-world sometime, as I generally answer any question with an honest answer, maybe sometimes slightly vague, but with always enough information for them to have more than a glimpse of the real me.

I'm that easy.

Wrath! =D I just played this too! To clarify tho, while I mentioned the option of using profile notes, I really don't like it because there's no easy way to see everyone you made a note on (as also said in the video). I openly like to keep notes on Flickr because it's so visual, and tag 'em so I can search later.

In any case, thanx for the cite!

Torley!!! (Or should I say, YANNI, from your Not-a-meme response, hehe)

Shhh, you weren't supposed to tell Vint that you didn't LIKE the notes option, only that they are there for everyone to use! ;-)

I am envious you have found a Flickr system that works for you - someday I can only hope to be that organized, lol. *g*

Keep up the good work, T - your website is an abundance of information! :-)
